It is important when you write about the country for a living to acknowledge your own blind spots. The parts of our culture and our politics and our society with which you have little affinity and not a great feel.
For me it is, and has always been, the GAA. I am a fan of neither code, and was so bad at sports as a child that the GAA “bug” never really had a chance to get me.
