The Italians are singing to each other across empty streets, so famous Offaly “singing pub” JJ Houghs has released a video of the ‘Irish version’ of how to show solidarity as COVID-19 locks down the country.
The Banagher hostelry is as much loved for it hilarious videos and chat as it is for the unique style and character of the pub and the traditional music and singing that takes places daily.
Now, with all pubs closing to minimise the spread of the virus, they’ve released a new video making the best of a bad situation.
Ger Hough on the bodhrán and Luke O’Connor on banjo made sure to sit at least two metres apart while perched on the first floor window sills to play a traditional tune.
“Just because we are closed and in isolation, doesn’t mean we can’t make the most of a bad situation. The Italian people rallied around and sung from their rooftops, well here’s the Irish version, JJ Hough’s style, all the way from Banagher,” they posted on Facebook.
Their video has reached almost 60,000 views in just over 24 hours.
