If you’ve ever listened to modern politicians, you’ll no doubt have heard them discuss the need for what they call “public service broadcasting” – which has always struck me as one of the funnier euphemisms that our leaders have to offer.
Politicians are very quick to remind us that without State-funded media, our democracy itself would be in mortal peril, because the public wouldn’t have access to reliable news, and elections could be swung by bogus information.
