Green Party TD Patrick Costello has said that it will likely fall to juries to decide whether something counts as “hate” if prosecutions are brought under the proposed hate speech bill.
In a comment which seems to have legitimised some arguments made against the legislation, Costello attempted to defend the lack of definition of the word ‘hate’ in the bill – something which you can’t really get around since, well, that’s the whole point of it.
