When drafting abortion legislation in 2018, then Minister for Health, Simon Harris ensured that the annual reports on the provision of same would contain as little information as possible.
Around July each year, then, under Section 20 of the abortion act, we are presented with just two pages of shallow data giving the most basic details about our spiralling abortion rate, and told only how many abortions take place per month and in total; how many take place in each county; and the number of abortions that took place on each of the grounds of the Act.
