A foreign national who was refused entry into a centre for asylum seekers has been refused bail after a court heard he tried to hit security men with his car, and allegedly bit a female garda.
Ivan Matuashvili, with an address at the Citywest Hotel in County Dublin, was accused of committing the offence on April 26 last, the Leinster Leader reports.
The Naas District Court heard on April 27, that the 39-year-old Georgian man had been denied entry into a centre for asylum seekers, and that he had then allegedly tried to hit security men with his car and also allegedly bitten a female garda.
Matuashvili was initially reported as being Russian, but a subsequent bail application yesterday heard that while he speaks Russian he is from Georgia.
Gardaí opposed bail for the accused saying he faced serious allegations and that there was strong evidence against him for the charges.
Matuashvili was refused bail and the case will return to court on May 18.
