Former Fine Gael Cllr. Bill Tormey has been sent forth for trial on charges of possession of child pornography and attempting to traffic an illegal immigrant into Ireland.
Tormey (73), who has an address at Glasnevin Ave Glasnevin Dublin 11, did not address the court during the short hearing, but indicated that he understood the charges against him.
Garda National Immigration Bureau Sergeant Fergus Sweeney confirmed to the court that Tormey had been served with the book of evidence.
Tormey is charged that at his home address in Dublin 11 in said District Court Area of Dublin Metropolitan District, did knowingly have in your possession child pornography to wit, Seven Images of Child Pornography, as defined by the Child Trafficking and Pornography Act, 1998 contrary to Section 6(1) of the Child Trafficking and Pornography Act, 1998.
He is also charged that on the 04/08/2021 at Terminal 1, Dublin Airport , Swords, Co. Dublin in said District Court Area of Dublin Metropolitan District, did knowingly facilitate the entry into the State of a person whom you knew or had reasonable cause to believe was an illegal immigrant or a person who intended to seek asylum contrary to Section 2 of the Illegal Immigrants (Trafficking) Act, 2000.
He was remanded on continuing bail to appear before the courts again on the 14th of February 2025 on his own bond of 400 euro.
Tormey indicated that he had surrendered his passport with Ms. Justice Trease Kelly instructed him not to apply for any other travel documents.
His bail conditions are also that he have no contact, either direct or indirect, with any of the witnesses involved in the case.
He was cautioned that if he has an alibi that he must inform the state of this within 14 days of today’s date.
