Documents released to Gript under FOI once again raise concerns about the tightly-knit relationship between the State, Ireland’s new media regulator Coimsiún na Meán, and activist organisations pushing for a radical overhaul of the Irish media sector in line with national diversity strategies.
Strident activist emails, expressing the belief that men and white people receive too much airtime on Irish radio, reveal the input extreme voices had during the creation of the media regulator’s ‘Gender, Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (GEDI) Strategy’, a non-legally binding guidance document applying to those media organisations involved in film, television, radio, audio and animation production.
