Down Syndrome Ireland (DSI) is launching its celebration of World Down Syndrome Day with a dance event and projection in Barnardo Square, Dublin this evening, March 20th at 7pm. A projection reflecting the theme of World Down Syndrome Day 2023 – “With Us, Not For Us” – will be beamed onto the side of the Tourist Information Centre in Barnardo Square from Monday March 20 to Friday March 24.
The launch of the projection will be accompanied by a vibrant and innovative performance titled “We Are One”, from a dance troupe marshalled by drama therapist Nessa O’Reilly of Barn Door Creative Studios. The event promises to mark a spectacular start to World Down Syndrome Day celebrations, which will take place throughout the globe.
Ahead of the event, CEO Barry Sheridan commented that: “This is going to be a colourful and spectacular start to the celebration of World Down Syndrome Day, and we’re very grateful to Dublin City Council for facilitating us in the heart of the capital. This display reflects the joy and creativity that people with Down syndrome, and their families, bring to communities throughout the country, across all 25 of our branches”.
“The Irish public has been incredibly supportive of Down Syndrome Ireland for over fifty years, and we’re calling on government to match that commitment, by giving people with Down syndrome and their families the support they deserve”, Sheridan concluded.
