I was speaking to a family member – who unlike you, dear reader, is not a close follower of politics – to get a sense of how the election is playing out in “normal person” land. What, I asked this person, have you noticed from the first week?
The answers, reassuringly, were not especially surprising. My family member agreed with Michael O’Leary. Aside from that, they’d noticed nothing of note apart from Mary Lou and Simon Harris having a dance-off in Monaghan on Monday. They were not particularly enthused to vote for anyone, but inclined generally towards an independent.
