On July 26, a decision was made by the Dublin District Court that may have considerable implications for the manner in which issues around immigration status and residency are determined. The case involved an appeal against the refusal of a taxi licence – to an individual who had “fraudulently” claimed residency on the basis of a “marriage of convenience contracted for the purposes of obtaining an immigration permission”. The case may have repercussions for other sectors and for how the courts deal with future applications and appeals.
