I think sometimes that those of us interested in politics need to be reminded that we exist in something of a bubble, and that not only are the vast majority of people not concerned about the movements of governments and activists, but rather they’re not on their radar at all. What is on their radar? Music, sports, TV shows, video games, their friends, among other entertaining things.
Unless you’ve been living under a rock in recent days, you’ll have seen the enormous crowds that Taylor Swift above all, but also Shania Twain and the host of performers at the Longitude festival, pulled into Dublin’s orbit over the weekend. The coverage has been extensive, and revealing. Emer McLysaght has an article in The Irish Times this morning with the headline: ‘My three nights at Taylor Swift cost me €47 an hour. Cheaper than therapy’.
