A Solidarity TD has cited Native American “two-spirit” identities to argue that the recognition of “third genders and more” is not a modern phenomenon.
Speaking in the Dáil during a recent debate on her Non-Binary and Intersex Recognition Bill 2026, Dublin-West TD Ruth Coppinger said that multiple genders had been recognised in “all ancient civilisations.”
