I wrote a piece a while back on how Americanisms are poisoning the English language.
I am growing increasingly impatient of Americana of any kind – the dreadful music, the awful food full of ‘vegetable oils’ which will kill you, the clothing (Harvard hoodies) and of course the TV (some of it is clever but most of it is trash.) But what is even worse are the new American ideas that have managed to jump from the American academy all the way across the Atlantic and arrived here in Ireland or to be more specific the Irish Times.
