Reports are emerging that six children have been stabbed by a male assailant in France.
The attack is reported to have taken place at 9:45 am (local time) this morning in a park in the south east area of Lake Annecy.
French News site BFM has said that “Four children were seriously injured and two of them are in absolute emergency.”
Two adults are also reported to have been stabbed during the attack.
The suspected attacker has been arrested with Regional deputy Antoine Armand describing the stabbing as “abominable”.
Emerging details about the incident say that the children are all nursery school age, around three years old.
Prime Minister Élisabeth Borne is said to be on her way to the scene of the crime.
A minute of silence was observed in the French National Assembly.
UPDATE: While it was previously reported that six children were stabbed during the attack the latest information says that four children and one adult were stabbed. It has also since been reported that a Syrian male refugee was arrested at the scene of the incident.
Two of the children and the adult are said to be in a serious condition, with the remaining two children reported to be “slightly injured”.
