With the election of Social Democrats’ Councillor Daniel Ennis to Dáil Éireann at Friday’s by-election, now all TDs in Dublin Central are of the Leftwing opposition, indicating a shift in the constituency’s overall profile.
At the 2024 General Election, in the four-seater constituency, voters elected Sinn Féin leader Mary Lou McDonald, Social Democrats TD Gary Gannon, and Labour Party TD Marie Sherlock. The only remaining Government holdout at that point was Fine Gael Finance Minister Paschal Donohoe, who had managed to hang in there from 2011 to late 2025.
