A day of protests across Spain has drawn hundreds of thousands of people out onto the streets in mass demonstrations of support for the people of Ceuta, the small Spanish enclave which says it has been left overwhelmed after more than 70,000 migrants poured into the territory from Morocco.
Thousands of migrants remain in Ceuta, leading to persistent concerns regarding services, facilities and safety, with El Mundo reporting that “reports of rape in Ceuta have increased tenfold since the crossing”. Many of the reported sexual assaults are by migrants on migrant women who made the crossing.
