Ireland will soon be the only EU member state that does not require applicants for citizenship to be proficient in the local language(s).
According to a report from the European Parliament, “Acquisition and loss of citizenship in EU Member State”, published last year, every EU country except Ireland and Sweden require applicants to speak the local language(s).
