You’ve probably seen it by now, an image that could have been created in a lab with the intention of maximising enraged engagement on social media: Shannon Community Partnership’s invitation to “Celebrate the Cultures of Shannon” for this year’s St Patrick’s Day, in which the Irish flag features only marginally.
“We invite you to join the parade and celebrate your country,” the poster reads, encouraging attendees to “play your country’s music”; “wear your national colours”; and “dance, wave flags and celebrate your culture”.
