According to the Irish Examiner, universities in Ireland have recorded at least 416 suspected instances in which students are believed to have used AI to gain an unfair advantage in exams or assessments, a.k.a. cheating.
An article this week notes that this figure almost certainly underestimates the issue, as many colleges still don’t record instances of suspected AI cheating as its own category. It’s also almost certain that many students likely use AI and simply don’t get caught, and thus aren’t reflected in the final figures, so we can assume that the scale of the problem is probably much larger in reality.
