Ivan Dodonav (42), who has an address at a state provided accommodation facility at the Aspect Hotel, Clondalkin was tried in absentia at Dublin District Court this morning.
A Garda witness gave evidence that on the 30th of June last on Grafton Street Dublin 2, offices were “flagged down” by members of the public and security staff in the area due to the behaviour of the accused which was described as “erratic”.
When Gardaí approached Dodonov he was “roaring and shouting” and behaving erratically.
The court heard that attempts to reason with the accused were unsuccessful and that he persisted in his behaviour, repeatedly calling Gardaí “murders” in earshot of tourists and other members of the public.
After he was cautioned in respect of his behaviour he became “non compliant” and continued to resist arrest after he was conveyed to Pearse Street Garda station.
He was charged with using threatening, abusive or insulting behaviour and obstruction of an officer contrary to Sections 6 and 19.3 of the Public Order Act.
Hearing that the accused has no previous conviction, Judge Michele Finan invoked Section 1.1 of the Probation Act, leaving Dodonav without a conviction.
Addressing the prosecuting Garda, she said, “I want to thank you for the excellent work you do.”
