The list of payments for the provision of asylum accommodation was released yesterday and shows that the total for 2025 is likely set to be around €1.5 billion.
The total payments amount to more than €450 million which is an increase of €35 million on the €416 million for the first three months of 2025. Which places the claim by Minister for Justice, Jim O’Callaghan, that he is intent on reducing numbers and costs into perspective. The numbers arriving may be down on the record years of 2023 and 2024 but they still arrive in unmanageable quantities.
