Figures released yesterday by the Department of Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth (DCEDIY) show that the total cost of providing accommodation for asylum seekers in 2024 came to €1.8 billion.
The overall bill for accommodation and related services since 2016 is now approaching €7 billion. In November, I had cautiously predicted that the bill for 2024 might be “close to €1 billion.” It seems that there are others with greater ambition than myself.
