On New Year’s Eve we reported a late planning application on the part of one of the big players in the asylum accommodation sector, Séamus ‘Banty’ McEneaney’s Brimwood Unlimited. That company and its family offshoots have to date earned more than €150 million from payments for the provision and management of such centres.
The application referred to above was submitted on December 19, and inquired of Dublin City Council whether the proposal to turn the Avondale Guesthouse on Gardiner Street in the north inner city of Dublin into an IPAS centre constituted an exempted development as accommodation for “persons seeking international protection.”
