One of the things to watch in what hopefully will be the negotiations to end the mess in Ukraine will be whether part of any deal includes the EU moving quickly to take in Ukraine as its 28th member state.
This was approved with minimal opposition in 2023 but with a time frame to run to 2027. However, just yesterday the Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister Olha Stefanisyhna said that there were 1,500 Ukrainian civil servants involved in the negotiations and that any jibbing on the part of any of the current member states would constitute “shirking responsibility for security on its own continent.” She claimed that they would be commencing talks on the “fundamentals” of accession in April.
