Yours truly spent the long weekend just past in the Polish capital of Warsaw and was struck not for the first time by the sense that the rebuilding of that city to its towering new heights is truly one of history’s great success stories.
Modern skyscrapers soar above, a smooth, tidy and timely metro runs below, while spacious streets, green spaces and squares abound everywhere else. The wonderfully-restored old plays as much – if not more – of a part in the cityscape as the unfolding new, simultaneously conveying pride in where the city has come from and confidence in where it’s going.
