Last week, I offered a “window” into the state-supported social enterprise industry by examining Gorm Media, an organisation that has received extensive State funding since its inception two years ago, in support of its mission to bring about “social and narrative change” in the face of an increasingly “toxic” social situation in Ireland.
Today, I’d like to zoom out and look at the social enterprise industry more broadly, because – in this writer’s opinion – it’s an under-discussed aspect of how the Government goes about meeting its policy objectives, without any of the negative connotations that have come to be associated with the traditionally favoured tool of non-governmental organisations (NGOs).
