Dublin Bay South will not, by itself, decide the outcome of the next general election, whenever that comes, but if you’re somebody who is entertained by politics, then the battles that will take place amid the gravel-strewn driveways of Ranelagh and Rathmines will be a prime source of compelling drama.
First, the lay of the land: Dublin Bay South is currently represented by four sitting TDs: Green Party Minister and former leader Eamon Ryan; Fianna Fáil TD Jim O’Callaghan, also known as brother to RTE Presenter Miriam; Labour Party leader Ivana Bacik, and Sinn Fein TD Chris Andrews. Bacik won her seat at a by-election in 2021 following the abrupt resignation of former housing minister Eoghan Murphy.
