A primary school textbook in Ireland advises students to consider eating insects as a nutritional alternative to beef, and suggests baking and eating “dry-roasted cricket” biscuits – an activity which one Independent TD has slammed as “creepy” and “nauseating”.
The textbook is Folens’ Combined Reading and Skills Book for Fourth Class. Fourth Class students are typically between 9 and 10 years old. It was first published in 2019, and is primarily aimed at fostering “comprehension, vocabulary development, grammar and writing development.”
