Peadar Tóibín has described the gains made by his party in the local elections as a “fantastic outcome for Aontú”, as the party’s Councillors increase from 3 to 8, with several other possibilities still in the running.
He said that the party wanted to thank voters who placed their trust in Aontú, adding that they were “delighted with the increase in seats” and the rise in support as seen in votes cast across much of the country.
“We’re still in the running in 3 or 4 constituencies where the counts are ongoing, so we’re not at a final tally yet,” he told Gript, “but 8 seats would almost see us triple our representation, and that’s a great outcome for Aontú voters and supporters of our common sense policies.”
Paul Lawless took a seat for the party in Claremorris, a breakthrough for the party n the county. He doubled his first preference return and told local media he was grateful for the support from voters., revealing he is not ruling out running in the next general election.

“We’ve seen Sarah O’Reilly in Cavan and Jim Codd in Wexford top the polls in their constituencies, which leaves them in a good position for a Dáil seat,” Mr Toibin said.
