Carol Nolan has demanded an emergency Dáil assembly after the release of documents obtained through a freedom of information request submitted by Gript Media.
The Independent TD for Laois/Offaly said she “will be demanding a full emergency Dáil debate on these FOI documents.”
“The revelations are explosive and they radically undermine Government and indeed State security.”
Nolan’s comments came after Gript’s Gary Kavanagh reported on the documents which contained internal communications from the Department of Justice in relation to the possible legal consequences should the defeated referendums on ‘care’ and ‘women in the home’ have been passed.
The information obtained by Gript suggests that the Government’s internal legal advice significantly differs from what the public were told about the legal ramifications of passing the referendums particularly regarding the effects on immigration law.
