German philosopher Bertolt Brecht once famously said something along the lines of ‘The people have failed; we must elect a new people.’ And this is a sentiment which the Irish government seems to have taken very much to heart.
Last week it was revealed that the Irish State is issuing guides in foreign languages – including Ukrainian – to inform the 55,500 eligible Ukrainian asylum seekers over the age of 18 how to vote in the local elections next year.
