The group of residents representing protesters in East Wall says it will break off all meetings with Government representatives following recent developments. In a statement issued today, the East Wall Protest Committee responded to the arrival of more people into the accommodation centre on East Wall Road by stating that they will not be holding any more meetings with political representatives until the Government accedes to the demand to close the premises.

According to local residents, several buses were seen to arrive at the centre this morning carrying men, women and children who – the East Wall Committee claims – have been moved from another location rather than having just arrived in Ireland. They say that this is an attempt to neutralize the protest but that “it will not succeed”.
The Committee claims that their protest has made the issue of migrant accommodation an issue around the country and has “set the benchmark for de-politicised debate around sensitive topics and thus a much needed National Debate is happening right now in almost every sitting room, radio station, media outlet, social media platform and the Dáil and Seanad.”
They say that this has highlighted the fact that “hospitals, schools, doctors and other services are at breaking point. Our population demand is growing three times faster than housing supply.”
In contrast to the popular reaction and the labelling of the community as “far right” and “racists,” they claim that “The Government and entire Establishment class including all the State funded NGO’s have clearly gone rogue in order to maintain so called ‘international obligations.’
The Committee renewed its challenged to the Government to back up its claim that “the people of Ireland support what they are doing” by placing the whole issue of migrancy before the people in a “simple referendum.”
“We call on the rest of the Nation to form community groups and stand up against this madness. Join us in our protest. make this government answerable to the people, stand with us and your community and shut this country down.
“We understand what other communities are going through and we want to build on our successes so far. The Irish people deserve better than the recklessness of open borders, t h e t r a n s f e r o f t he p e o p l e ‘s w e a l t h to hotel owners and other contractors.
“Our protest will continue until further notice or until the Provision centre is closed down. Those affected by this action can raise their concerns directly with those responsible for bringing about this desperate situation.”
Another protest is planned for Thursday evening at 5pm.
