Three people were hospitalised after a series of suspected stabbings took place in central Dublin yesterday.
A weapon has been recovered by Gardaí while two suspects, a male and a female, are in custody.
It is understood that the arrests are connected to another incident where are man is alleged to have stormed the GPO brandishing a knife.
The man was arrested at the scene and the GPO closed.
Gardaí were alerted to the first assault which took place at Wolfe Tone Square where a man and a woman were injured.
Both victims were brought to hospital with serious injuries.
The second assault took place at the nearby location of Moore Lane where a woman was injured.
It was reported that all three who were injured sustained “slash wounds”.
Gardaí said officers from Store Street “have arrested a male and female in relation to two incidents of assault that occurred this afternoon, Thursday 2nd November, 2023 at Wolfe Tone Square and Moore Lane.”
“The first incident refers to a male and female injured by two suspects at Wolfe Tone Square. Both injured parties were removed from the scene with serious injuries that are non-life threatening to the Mater Hospital.”
“The second incident refers to a female injured at Moore Lane, she too was removed from the scene to The Mater Hospital, with non-life threatening injuries.”
The statement continued “A man and a woman were arrested in relation to both incidents and were taken to a city centre Garda station where they are currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984. Investigations ongoing,”
As Gript previously reported a video reportedly recorded in the GPO yesterday afternoon shows a man with a knife being tackled by onlookers in the post office HQ in O’Connell St, before being arrested by Gardaí.
Two of those who tackled the man are heard saying ‘Let it go’, apparently in relation to the weapon which is seen in the video.
Gardaí said that a male (50s) had been arrested following a public order incident at the GPO, O’Connell St, Dublin 1 which occurred yesterday afternoon Thursday, 2nd November 2023.
He is detained at a city centre Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.
Investigations are ongoing.
