A man who the Zimbabwean authorities say is wanted for the murder of three people and who they also say applied for asylum in Ireland, has been arrested by Gardaí and has now appeared before the courts in this country.
The Irish Times says that a ‘triple murder suspect’ faces unrelated charges in the Republic, though they describe them as minor.
He was arrested by gardaí this week in relation to those offences, allegedly committed since he has been in Ireland. The triple murder suspect has already appeared before the courts and been remanded in custody.
The authorities in Zimbabwe have been in contact with Interpol, and with An Garda Siochana, about locating him and then seeking his arrest for extradition back to Zimbabwe to face trial there.
“The authorities in Zimbabwe claimed last month though an Interpol Red Notice had been issued for his arrest, they believe he had travelled to Ireland under a false identity. They further claimed to have information that he had applied for international protection, with family members, in Ireland and was living in a facility in west Dublin pending the processing of his application,” the paper added.
Last month, Gript reported that The Sunday Mail in Zimbabwe said that Peter Dube, who is sought on charges of murdering three people, was a fugitive who had left the country for South Africa and then changed identity when relocating to Ireland – where he sought asylum.
Police spokesman Assistant Commissioner, Paul Nyathi, told the Sunday Mail that Dube allegedly “relocated to Ireland, where he sought asylum”.
Dube is alleged to have shot dead the suspected lover of his second wife Nyasha Nharingo in Gweru in April 2021.
Nyasha’s friend Gamuchirai Mudungwe was also shot and killed in the deadly incident, and her sister Nyaradzo also died in the hospital after being shot.
Police chief Nyathi claimed that the Zimbabwean authorities had been in touch with Interpol and that Dube was now on the ‘Red Notice’ list, which is a request to law enforcement worldwide to locate and provisionally arrest a person pending extradition, surrender, or similar legal action.
However, the Red List does not appear to have Dube listed at this point in time.
Zimbabwean media outlets claimed that the suspected murderer was in Dublin and staying in West Dublin, though this claim was not verified.
