A man had been arrested in connection to an investigation into an aggravated burglary that took place at a residence in Ballyfermot Parade area of Dublin on Monday morning.
At around 2:00 a.m. a woman in her 60s was assaulted during an aggravated burglarly after a man entered her home and threatened her with a hammer.
“A struggle ensued and the woman managed to free herself onto the street and seek Garda assistance,” the Gardaí said in a statement.
“Gardaí immediately responded to the incident and a man, aged in his 30s was arrested at the scene. A sum of money, house keys and car keys were recovered.
“The man is currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at a Garda station in West Dublin.
“Investigations are ongoing.”
The arrest was part of Operation Thor – a Garda operation launched in November 2015, which was designed to tackle an anticipated increase in the number of burglaries and associated criminal activity that usually occur in winter months by undertaking targeted enforcement and preventative activity.
“This initiative has successfully reduced the rate of winter burglaries, leading to a significant decline in property related crime since its introduction in 2015,” Gardaí said.
“The winter phase of Operation Thor commenced on the 1st October 2024 and will run until the end of March 2025.”
