Beethoven remains one of the most admired composers in classical music, with some of the greatest music compositions in the genre credited to the German pianist.
As he once said: ‘Music should strike fire from the heart of man and bring tears from the eyes of woman.’
Some of his most famous works can be heard at the Westport Chamber Music Festival, a boutique festival presenting the best in Chamber Music performed by the finest of musicians from Ireland and around the world.
Beethoven’s Viola Quintet in C major, will be among the major works from some of the great composers at the Festival’s Preview Concert on Friday August 26th featuring Yuri Zhislin (violin) Vitaly Pisarenko (piano) Paul Fitzgibbon (viola) Patrick Moriarty (cellist) Maxence Bretel (violin) and Fiachra de hOra (viola).
The Long Gallery in the recently renovated Westport House is the venue for this unmissable performance from internationally acclaimed musicians, organisers say.
The repertoire includes Mozart, Tchaikovsky, Schubert, Franck, Kugel and Mayuzumi.
Yuri Zhislin and Vitaly Pisarenko are professors of music at the Royal College of Music in London. Three of the performers (Paul Fitzgibbon, Fiachra de hOra and Patrick Moriarty) are leading Irish artists who have varied experience as soloists, chamber and orchestral musicians and Maxence Bretel from France will pursue his artist diploma at the RCM this academic year
It has been a difficult period for the Arts Sector and musicians are delighted to be able to perform in front of live audiences. The intimacy of The Long Gallery is ideally suited to chamber music recitals and the artists are delighted to have the opportunity to play in Westport House.
The Westport Chamber Festival, now in its tenth year, plays host to an amazing line-up of musicians on August 26th and September 8th -11th. As part of the festival’s collaborative programme, Artistic Director Catherine Leonard will host this special preview concert.
Organisers urge those seeking “a memorable experience” to “visit Westport and savour classical music at its finest”.
