Every now and again, an Irish politician utters a sentence that makes me sit down and really think about the reasons that Ireland tends to develop the problems that it does. Yesterday’s candidate was Independent TD and “Super Junior” Minister Sean Canney, who was talking about the National Development Plan, a €200bn spending monstrosity that is probably being revealed around about the time you are reading this article. Here’s Canney, on his priorities:
Canney was tight-lipped on details about what will actually be announced, however, he stressed that it will be important that what is announced is “functional” rather than “award-winning”.
