The lava gushing from the Cumbre Vieja volcano on the Canary Island of La Palma is now approaching the sea. The lava is extraordinary hot – reaching 1,250 Celsius according to reports.
Since the volcano started erupting on September 19, more than 230 hectares have been engulfed by lava, with hundreds of houses, roads and schools destroyed, Thousands have been evacuated, and crops destroyed.
Images of the lava toppling a church tower have gone viral.
