The Department of Justice is set to increase co-operation with Somali authorities in response to a surge in asylum applications, as officials indicated that Ireland is preparing to align itself with German and Dutch efforts to facilitate deportations to non-EU jurisdictions.
According to reports carried in the Sunday Independent, Ireland will participate in EU discussions on the creation of return hubs outside the European Union, with Rwanda, Libya and Ethiopia reportedly among the countries being considered as potential partners.
