A Ukrainian man living in Banna Beach Holiday homes in Kerry has been charged with the attempted murder of a woman. Hryhorii Sryotenko (49) was also charged with assault causing serious harm, false imprisonment and producing a knife.
The Kerryman reported that Sryotenko, of 92 Banna Beach Holiday homes in Ardfert, “had previously been charged with offences in relation to the attack on the woman, but further charges were added this week, including the attempted murder of the female on January 13 of this year”.
Detective Garda Anthony Wharton told Tralee District Court that in relation to the charge of attempted murder, Mr Sryotenko said “I didn’t want to kill her.”
The accused has been in custody since he was arrested this year, and there has been no application for bail, the court heard. Legal aid was granted legal to his solicitor and for two barristers for the trial.
The Judge also granted costs for the book of evidence to be translated into Russian – while the Kerryman said a Russian interpreter was also in court to translate for the defendant.
In 2022, it was reported that that Banna Holiday Villas Ltd signed a contract worth €1.4m for holiday homes at Banna Beach Resort for use for Ukrainian refugees.
