President Joe Biden claims to be “a devout Catholic” but he is the most aggressive pro-abortion president ever in the U.S. and is promoting and enforcing social ideologies that are in direct conflict with Catholic beliefs and teaching. Some of that ideology has already reached Ireland as we see in the sexual indoctrination programme in schools and similar type books for children stocked in public libraries – both of which have been well publicised by Gript in recent weeks and which should be of major concern to parents. In reality, Biden is promoting his own brand of Catholicism which is the norm for Democrat Catholic politicians in the U.S. In the process, he is sewing confusion amongst genuine Catholics.
He has always used his Catholic faith as a lever for political advancement. So, it was no surprise at all that his speech in Ballina on Friday evening will be delivered outside St Muredach’s Cathedral, or that Knock Shrine is on his itinerary. Whilst his visit will publicise the Marian Shrine globally, and that is good, photographs of his visit there and his speech outside the cathedral will be a strategically important backdrop for use during the 2024 Presidential Election campaign if he, as is expected, seeks a second term.
As a backdrop to these well staged photo opportunities, it is well to recall how the FBI back home in the U.S. under his administration is infiltrating the Catholic Church to cultivate “sources”. That infiltration is currently under investigation by the House Sub-Committee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government, chaired by Rep Jim Jordan from Ohio. After reluctance by the FBI to produce all records, Jordan issued a subpoena to its Director “to compel your full cooperation.”
In a letter to the Director on 10 April, Jordan wrote: “Based on the limited information produced by the FBI to the Committee, we now know that the FBI relied on at least one undercover agent to produce its analysis. The FBI further proposed that its agents engage in outreach to Catholic parishes to develop sources among the clergy and church leadership to inform on Americans practicing their faith.”
According to the limited documentation the FBI released to Congress, the FBI had sought to use Catholic churches as “new avenues for tripwire and source development,” including at “mainline Catholic parishes” and among “local diocesan leadership.” It also targeted Catholic Church-goers to “enlist their assistance to serve as suspicious activity tripwires.”
This news came after an FBI whistle-blower revealed in January that the FBI’s Richmond field office in Virginia had begun to focus on what the office called “radical-traditionalist Catholic” parishes. The FBI rescinded the document within 24 hours of it being made public, but American Catholic leaders remained alarmed about this spying activity and asked Congress to investigate.
Jordan on Monday pointed out that members of Congress have “repeatedly” sought information from the FBI relating to its surveillance of Catholic houses of worship, only to receive one “substandard and partial response”. He called the revelations “outrageous” in his letter to the Director, arguing: “Although the FBI claims to have “numerous” and “rigorous” policies to protect First Amendment rights, the FBI’s Richmond document plainly undercuts these assertions. The document itself shows that its contents, including its proposal to develop sources in Catholic churches, were reviewed and approved by two senior intelligence analysts and even the local Chief Division Counsel. We know from whistle-blowers that the FBI distributed this document to field offices across the country. It is unclear, however, how many FBI employees explored “new avenues for tripwire and source development” in Catholic houses of worship across the country as a result of the FBI’s Richmond document.”
Jordan concluded by suggesting Congress will look into legislation to ensure against the “misuse” of FBI resources against the protected First Amendment activities of church communities. “These potential legislative reforms” he wrote “could include, among other proposals, legislation to prescribe how federal law-enforcement entities investigate constitutionally protected activity, legislation to educate federal law-enforcement personnel on civil liberty protections, or legislation to prevent the misuse of federal law-enforcement and counterterrorism resources in the future. The information we have requested about the FBI’s Richmond document is necessary to inform such potential legislation. Accordingly, and in light of your disregard of our earlier voluntary requests, please attached a subpoena for the requested documents and information.”
Any focus on Joe Biden being a Catholic President is idle talk because, despite his claims and displays of Catholic piety, he is actively working against Catholic beliefs and teaching and has weaponised the power and might of the federal government machine to enforce laws and policies that cause confusion for genuine Catholics and weaken the Church. He has caused very significant division within the Catholic Church in the United States.
