Three men have been arrested by Gardaí as part of an investigation into an organised crime group suspected of carrying out burglaries at both residential and commercial properties across the North-Western Region and other parts of the country.
The arrests followed a search operation conducted on Friday, 29th November 2024, in Dublin and Kildare. During the operation, Gardaí seized four vehicles, including a high-performance blue BMW, and recovered a significant quantity of suspected stolen goods.
The suspects, one in his 50s and two in their 20s, are being detained at a Garda station in the North-Western Region under Section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act 2006. The operation involved Gardaí from various divisions in the North-Western Region, supported by national and regional units.
This initiative is part of Operation Thor, An Garda Síochána’s nationwide strategy aimed at tackling organised crime groups engaged in burglaries and related offences. Investigations remain ongoing.
“Operation Thor, launched in November 2015, is designed to tackle the anticipated increase in the number of burglaries and associated criminal activity that usually occur in winter months by undertaking targeted enforcement and preventative activity,” the Gardaí said in a statement.
“This initiative has successfully reduced the rate of winter burglaries, leading to a significant decline in property related crime since its introduction in 2015.”
