The winner of the record €250 EuroMillions lottery ticket has come forward, with the National Lottery confirming that the ticket was sold in County Cork.
It is the largest ever EuroMillions win in Irish history, and the 18th time the jackpot has been claimed by an Irish player. The winning numbers from Tuesday’s draw were 13, 22, 23, 44 and 49, with lucky stars 3 and 5.
Earlier this week, the Irish National Lottery had asked the winner, who bought the ticket at a retail outlet in Cork, to come forward, encouraging the then-unidentified winner to “stay calm” amid the extraordinary win.
Emma Monaghan, spokeswoman for the National Lotto, said the name of the winning Cork shop “will be announced tomorrow”. Ms Monaghan said that the priority would be providing time and space for the winner to make arrangements and “let this life-changing news sink in.” No other details will be announced at this stage.
“We are absolutely thrilled to have heard from our EuroMillions winner,” Ms Monaghan said.
The win exceeds the previous €175 million record, won by a family syndicate when Reilly’s Daybreak shop in The Naul, Co Dublin, sold the winning ticket in February 2019.
Since the National Lottery was established 37 years ago, more than €6.5 billion has been raised for Good Causes. Nearly 30% of every €1 spent on the National Lottery goes back into the areas of sport, health, youth, welfare, heritage and the Irish language, with €239.3 million raised for local Good Causes in communities across Ireland last year.
