A “reckless motorist” who left a van on Luas track yesterday evening disrupted tram services for several hours on a particularly busy evening in the city hosting several matches and concerts.
The van was driven on to the Red line tracks near the Blackhorse stop but the driver did not remain at the scene. No one was injured, but services were subsequently disrupted until a crane removed the vehicle.
“A reckless motorist has embedded their car on the Luas track at Blackhorse,” the transport provider tweeted last night.
“Three tow truck companies, Luas technicians and An Garda Síochána are on site. Following inspection the car will have to be removed by a crane.”
An Garda Síochána said that: “Gardaí attended the scene of a road traffic incident involving a van, which became lodged on the Luas tram line at Blackhorse, Inchicore, Dublin 8, this evening, Saturday 29th June 2024, at approximately 7.10pm. The Luas line was temporarily closed and has since reopened.
“The driver of the car failed to remain at the scene. No injuries were reported at the time. Investigations are ongoing.”
