On Tuesday evening, I did something I haven’t done in several years – I spoke at a college debate in UCD organised by the Law Society on the topic of whether the country needs a right to housing in the constitution. Naturally, my side (opposing the idea) lost, but perhaps the most notable thing about the evening was that UCD assigned a security guard to escort me back to my car. In fairness, there was no obvious danger – and the students were perfectly polite – but it’s a sign of the times, I think. Here are some other things that caught my eye this week:
