It’s been described as love without borders – and the photos of prams left out by Polish mothers at Przemyśl Główny Rail station for Ukrainian mothers fleeing their country with babies to find them ready is a stark reminder of the tragedy of war.
As the fighting intensifies, it is expected that up to 5 million refugees, including many mothers and children will flee the Ukraine to neighbouring countries.
Many have crossed the Polish border in the past 10 days, with some estimates believing that a million Ukrainians may have now come to Poland.
Some of those are women with babies in arms, and Polish families have left the prams and buggies at the station to offer some assistance.
Some observers noted that on International Women’s Day the gesture should be seen as a real act of solidarity.
On International Woman's Day I for one am particularly holding up all the women nursing young children caught up in the conflict.
This picture had me in tears – an incredibly moving gesture by Polish women leaving their pushchairs for Ukrainian refugeeshttps://t.co/3WyacS5y9d
