The trial of the man accused of attempting to murder three children and attacking a childcare worker in Parnell Square last year has been postponed, as his legal representatives await a neuropsychologist’s report.
50-year-old Riad Bouchaker of no fixed address was originally scheduled to stand trial on January 13th.
However, his defence team successfully applied to have the date vacated.
During proceedings at the Central Criminal Court, senior counsel for the defence submitted documents to Justice Paul McDermott, outlining the complexity of the neuropsychologist’s required work.
He further said that the report is expected to be completed by the end of February.
Consequently, the case has now been adjourned until February 26th.
The accused faces charges of attempting to murder two young girls and a boy. One of the victims – a five-year-old girl – sustained serious injuries during the incident.
He is also accused of seriously assaulting a childcare worker and carrying or producing a knife.
