In the 2025 Presidential election, an unprecedented 12.9% of Irish voters – the vast majority of whom were of the dissident rightwing variety – chose to actively go into their local polling station and spoil their vote in protest of the entire political system.
Hundreds of thousands of voters – many of whom, under normal circumstances, would likely have given Fine Gael a begrudging transfer to keep the far-Left out of the Áras – chose instead to spoil their ballot and simply let the Government bomb. It was the Ivan Drago in Rocky IV approach: “If he dies, he dies.”
