The National Women’s Council of Ireland has called for the expansion of the ‘Free Contraception Scheme’ to include all people, including migrants who cannot currently access the scheme because they don’t have a PPS number.
Among the “barriers” to accessing the scheme listed by the researchers were “intrusive questioning and prejudicial assumptions by healthcare providers” reported by LGBT-identifying people, and “English language and literacy issues” affecting Traveller, Roma, and migrant women.
